THE ADAMS-PRATT OAKLAND COUNTY LAW LIBRARY
A legal reference collection has been available in Oakland County since 1904. The Law Library was officially designated the Clark J. Adams-Phillip Pratt Oakland County Law Library in 1976. Upon completion of the Oakland County Circuit Court's West Wing Extension in 1994, the Law Library moved to the second floor of that building.
To serve the needs of county government and court personnel, attorneys, law and paralegal students, as well as the general public, the Law Library maintains an up-to-date collection of legal materials. Because all legal resources must be immediately accessible to all library patrons, the collection is non-circulating.
The collection includes Michigan and Federal statutes, digests, reports, Shepard's citators, treatises and law reviews, as well as statutes and case law for all states, in various formats. Patrons can perform some legal research electronically through limited online services, CD-ROM products and via the Internet.
Reference staff are available to guide patrons to law related materials and to help patrons understand the process of legal research. However, by law, the staff cannot give legal advice, interpret the law, or answer questions about legal matters.
