JUDICIAL CANDIDATE FORUMS -
YOUR ONE-STOP GUIDE TO EVALUATING THE CANDIDATES
The Oakland County Bar Association has partnered with the League of Women Voters Oakland Area and the Detroit Free Press to host judicial candidate forums in all races where there are contested seats. The forums are open to the public and are recorded so that they may be aired on cable channels in the communities where the races take place.
The purpose of the partnership is to disseminate information about judicial candidates as widely as possible in their communities and to encourage the active participation of Oakland County citizens in voting in judicial elections as well as to assist them in becoming far more knowledgeable and informed voters.
It is important to note that this partnership is nonpartisan and that the respective organizations will not support or oppose candidates prior to the candidate forums. The Detroit Free Press may or may not endorse judicial candidates before the election after the forum has taken place. The partners in the Judicial Candidate Forum project strive to provide factual, nonpartisan information to citizens regarding candidates’ qualifications and views.
Each forum consists of two panelists who ask questions of each of the candidates. One panelist is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and one panelist is from the Detroit Free Press. The forum is moderated by a representative of the League of Women Voters. Each forum lasts for a minimum of an hour. The community is invited to attend and submit questions for responses by the candidates. Screeners are on-hand to review those questions for appropriateness as well as to avoid duplication. Last, each community’s local cable television provider is invited to tape and air the judicial candidate forum.
Each candidate was asked to complete a Judicial Candidate Questionnaire. These completed questionnaires are posted below as submitted by the candidates. Click on the candidate name to read his/her completed Judicial Candidate Questionnaire.
