A Call for Nominations

The Oakland County Bar Association is looking for dedicated, hardworking members who want to put their time and talent to work supporting the mission of the OCBA. Are you interested in helping your association continue to grow and stay up to date with the rapidly changing legal environment? Do you want to make a meaningful contribution to the legal profession and to your community? Do you have ideas and a passion to make a difference?

The Nominating Committee, chaired by Immediate Past President Thomas H. Howlett, will be meeting soon to develop a slate of candidates for this year's board of directors election.

Board members help shape the future of the association. The Oakland County Bar Association’s board approves policy, oversees finances, reviews and evaluates the work of our numerous committees, and plans educational, public service and social events. Unique to the OCBA is our ability to take a position on issues of public policy affecting the legal profession and to actively participate in the legislative process.

Board members have a group responsibility as well as an individual responsibility to help carry out the OCBA’s mission:

“To serve the professional needs of our members, improve the justice system and assure the delivery of quality legal services to the public."

The OCBA’s bylaws require that the Nominating Committee submit two names for each open board position. At this writing, there are four three-year terms and one two-year term to be filled!

Potential candidates are asked to submit a letter of intent and a Personal Data Form outlining your contributions to the legal profession, involvement in OCBA committees and your area of law practice. It is important to note that when considering applications, the Nominating Committee places great emphasis on past bar service. Our bylaws also require that in order to be a director, you must have been a regular OCBA member for the past four years.

All materials must be submitted to Terri Ticknor Gilbert at tgilbert@ocba.org no later than February 5, 2016.
