Course Description: Financial issues arise in many areas of the law so it is important to understand the implications of financial statements. This seminar will provide an understanding of accounting practices, principles and terms. Topics of discussion will include:

  • Basics of financial statements, what is included is a standard set of GAAP financial statements, and what financial statements don’t show
  • What is GAAP?
  • What information is included on company balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements and footnotes
  • What is accounting?
  • What are the various methods of accounting?
  • What is an accounting cycle?
  • What levels of assurance are associated with the different types of financial statements?
  • What are the key financial analytics that demonstrate the health of a company?
  • How do the financial statements correlate to business valuation?
