THE NEW MIDC RULES: BEST PRACTICES IN OAKLAND COUNTY

Course Description: The first four rules proposed by the Michigan Indigent Defense Council governing the appointment of attorneys to represent indigent clients have been conditionally approved by the Michigan Supreme Court. There are four more on the way. Oakland County Court Administrator, Kevin Oeffner, will discuss the current status of the MIDC initiative, what’s being done to address the Supreme Court’s concerns about the constitutionality of two of the MIDC Act’s provisions, and the next steps should the Act be revised to the satisfaction of the Supreme Court. Mr. Oeffner and members of his staff - Mona Tighe, Amy Vinyard, and Cindy Lingle – will also outline the process of court-appointed attorney payments.
