Saving money is always a priority in good and bad economic times. Appealing property taxes is still an option. There are still properties over-assessed on the tax rolls. The process can be intimidating but is necessary to assure the tax liability alignment of a property with the market. Tax law is designed to allow two identical properties, side-by-side, to be paying dramatically different tax amounts. Understanding the definition and calculation of assessed values versus taxable values. What makes one go up and the other down? Is the March Board of Review applicable to all property types? Are tax assessments appeal processes different for residential and non-residential properties. What are the deadlines for appealing taxes? What is the basis of the assessment level of a property?
