The Michigan Indigent Defense Commission and the Oakland County Bar Association present the following training opportunity: Skills Training for Criminal Defense Lawyers. Designed as a model for compliance with the basic skills acquisition requirements of MIDC Proposed Standard 1, this training event is designed for lawyers accepting appointments in adult criminal cases.

The Oakland County Bar Association and the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission are pleased to offer this free training opportunity. All training complies with the basic skills acquisition requirements of Michigan Indigent Defense Commission Proposed Standard 1. Participants will receive 6.5 credits toward criminal assignment requirements. The tentative schedule is as follows:

  • 10:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. - Break
  • 10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. -  SKILLS TRAINING

  • 12:15 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. - Lunch on your own
  • 1:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. - PRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONS
    • Practical pointers

  • 2:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - Break
  • 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - DEFENDER MOTION PRACTICE
    • Core motions and innovative practice, legal updates, critical arguments, and strategy
