Summary

The new Michigan Indigent Defense Commission Standards mandate continual representation by counsel at every court appearance throughout an indigent defendant's case, including arraignment. How will Oakland County Circuit and district courts adhere to these rules? Topics of discussion will include:

1) Oakland County's plan to enforce approved and proposed standards and how it will affect appointed counsel practice;
2) An overview of the jail and procedures in place once defendants arrive;
3) Differences in arraignment procedures before and after MIDC;
4) Access to pre-trial services
