Solo and small firm practitioners face challenges beyond the practice of law. Beyond managing a caseload, growing their practice and managing staff, they need to ensure the security of the data they maintain for professional liability and business continuity purposes. The latter is no easy task: with better technology tools designed to streamline a law practice comes greater responsibility. This session will

1. provide an overview of data privacy obligations
2. walk through a simulated ransomware attack to highlight the damage that can be done and the reporting obligations that can be triggered, and
3. provide practical guidance on preventative technology and procedures to reduce the risk of a successful attack.
