Distinguished Career Achievement Award

Established: 2001 (Revised January 7, 2004; May 5, 2010)
Purpose: To recognize an attorney who is no longer practicing, but whose career exemplifies extraordinary achievement in the ideals of the profession, including competence, civility, professionalism, and service to the community and to one’s fellow lawyers throughout the active legal career of the recipient.
Awarded: Annually at the OCBA Annual Meeting. There will be no more than three recipients of this award in any single year.
Criteria:
- Candidates must have practiced for at least 40 years or be deceased at the time of the nomination.
- Each nominee must have been a member of the Oakland County Bar Association whose legal practice has been conducted for a majority of the time in Oakland County.
- Each nominee must have a disciplinary record free of revocations, suspensions and reprimands.
- A recipient must have distinguished herself or himself by exhibiting extraordinary competence in his or her area of practice.
- A recipient must have exemplified the ideals of civility and professionalism throughout his or her career.
- A recipient must have a record of service to the community.

A recipient must have a record of service to his or her fellow lawyers, including participation in local or state bar sections and committees.
How to Nominate: A letter of nomination inclusive of nominee’s activities
Selection Process: The OCBA executive board selects the award recipient(s) from the nominations submitted
